IMG_0721Moxibustion (moxa) is a modality of Chinese Medicine that burns a Chinese herb called Ai Ye or mugwort (L. Artemisia Vulgaris). With stick moxa, the acupuncturist holds a pole stick close to the skin on the chosen area and waits for the zone to become warm. The acupuncturist will ask the patient to inform them when the point becomes too hot. This form of treatment is very tonifying and brings healing qi and blood to the area. Direct moxa uses the loose form of this herb. It is made into cones and warmed on certain points of the body.

Moxa therapy is very soothing and relaxing. It can move stuck energy or blood and help dissolve accumulations. Some of the benefits are that it helps relieve pain from arthritis, sprains, and muscle aches. Moxa also helps regulate the menstrual cycle and alleviate cramps.  Reproductive issues and fertility can also be increased by using moxa. Amazingly, moxa on a specific point in pregnant women turns babies that are in the breech position.

Leslie has seen an immediate effect by using moxa on patients who are very deficient and weak.  After a treatment with moxibustion they are amazed at how much energy they have and how rejuvenated they feel.  Leslie frequently uses moxa in the clinic for reproductive issues, digestion problems, pain, and sleep disorders.
